Japan Mobility Show 2023 is revving up to be an event where the future of automotive technology takes center stage. Yamaha is already gearing up to make a lasting impression with its upgraded MOTOROiD experimental bike, now rechristened as MOTOROiD2. This vehicle is no ordinary bike, it promises to be the epitome of what future smart electric bikes could be.
MOTOROiD2 incorporates state-of-the-art technology, blending artificial intelligence with the latest in automotive innovations. It distinguishes itself from other bikes in several ways, not least of which is its ability to park itself. This self-parking feature is powered by Yamaha’s Active Mass Center Control System (AMCES). The bike also employs facial recognition technology, which allows it to identify its owner as they approach, prepping itself for their next urban adventure.
But that’s not all. This Yamaha-designed vehicle is also a self-balancing marvel. The bike is engineered to automatically deploy its kickstand when parking, eliminating one more task for the rider. In an upcoming update, Yamaha intends to make the bike even more user-friendly by allowing it to move alongside the owner at a preset distance, much like a loyal drone companion.
Adding another layer of sophistication, the bike will also be able to autonomously tilt during tight cornering situations. This feature stems from a specialized hub motor suspended from the swingarm, which connects to a motorized, pivoting mount point under the saddle. The design allows the entire swingarm and rear wheel to move independently, enabling the bike to tilt without affecting the rest of its structure.
MOTOROiD2 is not just about functionality; it’s a visual spectacle as well. Its ultra-modern design borrows cues from industrial aesthetics, featuring a sleek and lean body structure. The bike’s front section boasts a form that could best be described as Amorphous alien, and the copper highlights bring a stylish contrast to its steel and white body paint. A mood lighting system, which changes color, further elevates the bike’s visual appeal.
The saddle itself offers another design marvel. It runs right through to the handlebar and can be pushed up to give the bike a more dynamic look, although this does make it impossible to ride the bike simultaneously.
