Smooth surfaces – light bricks and bright timber, American oak for furnishing and soft natural textures are illuminated from the profuse daylight flow that fills this house extension, tanks to the vast windows and additional skylight introductions. For the Sydney owners and the architect Andrew Burges this was one of the main goals during the construction of the house addition- improving the connection with the garden and filling the premises with natural light and welcoming sensation.
The clear contemporary interior of the extension is staged between white ceiling and polished concrete floor. The combination black and light wood, white and gray, reclaimed bricks and timber blinds, creates clean and bright ambiance that emanates serenity. The unusual shape and configuration of the roof allows the two skylights to introduce bright daylight in the middle of the rooms and illuminate the tactile surfaces – caramel wood, smooth concrete, soft leather and light colored bricks. The bedroom has the same serene and clear lined presence as the rest of the house addition and with its minimal and contemporary furnishing; window opening toward the garden and chess – board configuration bricks- creates the impression of big open space.
