The Tibetans make very fine, but hardy carpet knots and this technique comes into its own in the latest “Semis” carpet by Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec for Danskina.
Together with the carpet-makers, the two brothers spent two years working on this virgin wool and cotton piece, which with its dots arranged in different rhythms interweaves to create an exciting overall image. Select from two different designs, the one with large, the other with small dots, in either black-and-white or white-and-black.
Semis is an exercise in dots and tactility, geometrically aligned and placed in different rhythms by varying the densities and heights of the rug’s knotted surface, the resulting visual effect is one of an abstract landscape, an aerial view of plantings in a field.
