This beautiful and creative addition to an Edwardian House in Melbourne subs shows how old history can be entwined into a luminous and stylish home with pure and organic emanation. The design team from Studio Bright used extensive wooden cladding, sand-colored brick, and specific rhythm of shapes and textures to create a unique and pure ambiance for the new home’s feel.

The new addition of the house has been located at the back of the site, creating a second street-facing facade with a contemporary expression and characteristic features. It consists of two levers – the lower containing living space and kitchen, while the upper-story house’s rooms including a library, lounge, guest room, and study. One of the most characteristic spaces of the new addition is the pool area decided as a sequestered room-like a secret garden drawing inspiration from the classic Roma baths beauty – a premise offering its unique charm and inviting experience with a close connection with the rest of the living premises.

The undulated steps and levels that connect the secluded behind heavy emerald curtains living room niche, with the kitchen and dining room’s open floor composition, are another expressive and characteristic features of the space design. But undoubtedly the suspended black cube hosting the stairs leading to the second level is the excellent, sculptural eye-catcher of the social area design.

Thanks to the creamy smoothness of the monochrome base of the color composition created by the beige variations of wood, leather, and sand-bricks the rest of the design elements can be chosen in bolder or contrasting colors and materials- black metal frames, colorful tiles, emerald greens. All thoughtful details just compliment the pure and organic feel of the main constructs and the wooden and brick structures.

The project called Ruckers Hills House offers small cozy spaces with a strong connection with the surrounding gardens and water premises ( a trendy search of modern architects- an unobstructed link between in and out) and entwinement of design styles- Scandinavian purity, Mid-century modern, clean lines and playful colored metal and tiles characteristic for the last year in the design world. All in a bond with the old home’s spirit. Photographer: Rory Gardiner;
