Restaurant “The old man and the sea” located in a hangar on the ancient port of Jaffa spread over an area of 900 square meters. It was designed by Nir Portal. Location of a fish restaurant preserves the memory of the owner’s ancestors and their fishing boats housed in this space in the past. The restaurant is intertwined with elements of local Arab architecture but with a modern twist and new finishing materials, for example, six arches made of wood instead of stone. The restaurant floor was paved with authentic concrete tiles used in Jaffa’s old houses. Part of the interior decor is a wall mounted boats, which act as an art object. Luminaires are also in typical marine style. Wooden surfaces of tables and chairs are painted on layers of paint, effect of wear-like fishing boats.
